The
Chiropractic Adjustment
|
|
|
An "adjustment" in chiropractic is referring to the movement of a bone
or joint to restore normal motion. Many times - through
falls, car accidents, or day to day activities - Our joints become
slightly misaligned. Major misalignments, which you've
probably heard of, are referred to as "Dislocations". Though
these occasionally do happen, what we typically see are injuries of
less severity than this. We refer to these sub-dislocations as
"Subluxations" or slightly misaligned joints. These can happen in any
joint in the body from your toes to your skull, not just the back or
neck. When they do occur, we perform an "adjustment" to
assist the joint back into normal motion. This is typically a
subtle movement of just around a millimeter. Occasionally, the patient
will feel sore after their first few treatments as the body tries to
get used to what we are doing. |

Who
can Chiropractic Help?
|

|
At this clinic, our youngest patient so far was only 2 days old; our
oldest was in her late 80's. Chiropractic can help you from the day you
were born and keep helping throughout life. For most people,
chiropractic is seen as helpful for back or neck pain. This, however,
is just a small fraction of what we can actually help with. In our
clinic, we have already treated patients with: |
- Migraines
- ADD/ADHD
- Knee Problems
- Carpal Tunnel
- Fatigue |
-
Shoulder Problems
- Pregnancy
- Anxiety
- Disc Problems
- Colic |

Is Chiropractic
Safe?
|
Like any medical profession, a bad doctor can be dangerous. However, if
you consider the malpractice insurance companies who do studies on how
likely a doctor is to hurt a patient, chiropractic really shows how
safe we are. The average general medical doctor (family
doctor) with good coverage pays between $10,000 - $20,000 per year for
their coverage (with no claims against them). The average
OB/GYN can cost more than $70,000! HOWEVER
- Chiropractic malpractice at the same level as the
medical doctor costs less than $2000 per year. If someone has
told you that it is dangerous, did they spend millions of dollars in
research like the malpractice insurance companies? Though
many other medical professionals have come to realize the benefits of
chiropractic, there are still some that hang on to outdated ideas that
if you can't medicate it or cut it, it cannot be fixed. |
The ONLY
adjustment that has merited any study into injury is the "Rotary
Cervical Adjustment" pictured to the right. This adjustment introduces
rotation into the neck during the adjustment. Studies say that the
likelihood of this motion causing a stroke is about 1 in 10,000,000.
Other studies have shown that you had a better chance of slipping,
falling and dying in your
shower this morning than being seriously injured in a chiropractic
office. HOWEVER
- this adjustment is NOT
practiced in this office just in case there is any merit to these
claims. Don't you wish certain drug companies followed those
types of precautions before releasing their drugs to market and harming
several thousand people? |
